The first WTCQD events in NZ were held in 2002 and were organized by the
New Zealand National T’ai Chi Ch’uan Association Inc. With the success of the
inaugural WTCQD event in Auckland,
the Association established a special sub-committee to coordinate future events
in the city.
The New Zealand National T’ai
Ch Ch’uan Association is based in Christchurch
and was established in 1988 by students of Master Hu Loo Chi. Master Hu was
himself a pupil of the renowned Chen Wei Ming.
The Association is a non-profit organization whose aim is
to promote T’ai Chi Ch’uan and its associated arts. It does not see itself as a
regulatory body for the practice of T’ai Chi Ch’uan and is open to all who wish
to support the promotion of the art in N.Z. All work contributed to its running
is done on a voluntary basis.
The Association is affiliated to the Taiwan T’ai Chi Ch’uan
International Federation.
